Like the kangaroo, the koala
... is probably one of the most famous representatives of Australian fauna and is bursting with unusual features. These nocturnal tree dwellers are similar to kangaroos in that they are marsupial mammals. They have water-repellent fur and two thumbs on their front feet with fingertips that have papillary ridges similar to those of humans. The koala spends most of the day sleeping and is almost only active for feeding and reproduction. With its large, sensitive nose, it can smell whether the eucalyptus leaves, on which it feeds almost exclusively, contain toxins or uses them to locate mother or young animals. In the Aboriginal language, "koala" means "without water". Its name therefore refers to the fact that koalas rarely drink. The play figure is realistically hand-painted. Awarded the "spiel gut" seal of quality.
